The water really is that colour. No filter needed.
This is Gokyo, a chain of glacial lakes in Nepal's Everest region, set high in the Gokyo Valley within Sagarmatha National Park.
You walk for days through Sherpa villages, past stupas and prayer flags, with clouds rolling over the ridges. Then the valley opens, and there it is: turquoise water, a few lodges on the shore, and the Himalaya standing behind it. Climb Gokyo Ri in the morning, and Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu are all in front of you at once.
Quieter than the Base Camp trail. Just as unforgettable.
Where the peaks meet the peace.
