First steps indoors
Hand on railing, a knit vest in deep purple and a blue cap pulled tight. This little one finds equilibrium and frontally confronts the lens in a wooden house in the sun. The adventure of a mountain life begins right here; little, inquisitive, and not afraid of the world outside.
Out as far as the street in the village
Shortly after, the childhood steps outside as well. They hatched up water fetching ideas to fetch by the time he was tall enough to carry it, and then his cheeks burned red from altitude. Here up north growing up means helping. Little shoulders so big a resolve.
Living life on these trails.
On one's day, the younger person is replaced by the elder. She walks across the bridge as she has done a thousand times; her nose and ears are gilded, and the stick was worn down with years. Each fold corresponds to each season lived. The mountains lift their people up gently — and don't let them down.
