🌿 Pachyu and Mohosi

In many Gurung villages, Mohosi is performed by the Pachyu, especially when it is related to death rituals.

🔹 Who is Pachyu?
• Pachyu is the traditional ritual priest of the Gurung community
• Handles death rites, purification (suddhi), ancestor rituals
• Communicates with spirits, ancestors, and village deities

🔹 Why Pachyu does Mohosi

When a person dies outside the village, Mohosi becomes:
• A ritual purification, not a punishment
• A way to bring the soul back symbolically to the village
• A process to remove ritual impurity (asuddha)

Because of this, only Pachyu is ritually authorized to:
• Perform the chants and offerings
• Declare the family and village ritually clean
• Complete Mohosi properly

Meme Pokhari

Memepokhari is a sacred alpine pond located in the Manaslu region of Nepal. Situated at an altitude of approximately 4,400 meters, it is considered holy by the local Gurung and Tibetan communities. The pond is surrounded by pristine landscapes and offers breathtaking views of Mt. Manaslu (8,163m) and Mt. Himalchuli (7,893m).

It was Dashian Tika day, we- a Japanese tourist, 8 porters, a cook, a cook assistant and a guide started camping toward Meme Pokhari. Back in 1983 A.D. Japanese lost his two friends in Mt. Manaslu region and for their memories and tribute, the Japanese friend stepped for Meme Pokhari, situated just in front of Mt. Manaslu

Leaving Memepokhari!
As we left Memepokhari and descended towards Thadu, we came across a beautiful meadow, with views of rivers and mountains across us, vibrant greens and wildflowers. It was a truly majestic landscape.
