Unbelievable! A Southern Right Whale calf in Mainland New Zealand… 180 years after they were hunted to local extinction. seven generations ago. imagine in seven generations to come… standing on the shore of Akaroa Harbour watching whale calfs swimming… ❤️

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is urging boaties to take extra care while a southern right whale and her calf are in coastal waters off northern New Zealand.

Did you know? Akaroa has two significant nationally listed Historic Areas, the Akaroa Waterfront Historic Area listed in 1993 and described as “this zone anchors the primary landing and settlement site of the French colonists who arrived in 1840, overlapping with deep indigenous Māori history and early European whaling and trading.”
The other Akaroa Historic Area was listed by the Akaroa Civic Trust with Heritage New Zealand in 1999.… more to come.

Akaroa has a nationally significant heritage landscape that includes several nationally listed heritage sites, Akaroa Waterfront Historic Area and Akaroa Historic Area listed by the Akaroa Civic Trust in 1999 and so much more! Tree planting with Meridian Energy 🌳 trees from Kōwhai seeds I collected and propagated myself. We planted over 60 kōwhai which will benefit the tui that are now breeding permanently. Making my tours carbon positive in 2026. We also planted a dozen mahoe which have incredibly strong rooting systems and stabilises the soil while creating excellent browse for cattle ensuring they don’t need chemical drenches, meaning we can manage the grass organically. ❤️

I knew that moment would be historic, so I flew across America 🇺🇸 to witness, to say one day, I was there. For many years it didn’t mean much, and now it really does and makes me proud, just that I bothered to go and notice. Every day is history in the making, every single day. Pay attention to it, because we are writing the story right now. How do you want it to be told?

Fascinating read! Not an easy one, but a mind changing look at global economics and shadow banking that drives many of the worlds biggest problems right now, including the capsizing of democracy and the rise of Donald Trump, while 80% of Americans live paycheque to paycheque. How the British economy is now mostly foreign owned and the sloshing around of global finance destabilises the real economy of everyday people making food and earning wages. From my favourite economist!
