Discover India: The Kumbh Mela is the largest peaceful religious gathering on Earth. Held every 12 years, it attracts millions of pilgrims who come to bathe in the sacred rivers to cleanse their sins and attain spiritual enlightenment.

The origins of the Kumbh Mela can be traced back to ancient Hindu mythology. According to legend, during a battle between gods and demons over a pitcher (kumbha) containing the nectar of immortality, a few drops of the nectar fell at four different locations in India - Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.

The Kumbh Mela is celebrated in these four places, rotating between them within 12 years. (E.g. Prayagraj and Hardiwar's Kumbh Mela are held 6 years apart.) The weeks of which the festival is celebrated is based on the Hindu luni-solar calendar and the positions of Jupiter, the Sun and Moon.

Each festival attracts millions, with the largest gathering at Prayagraj's Kumbh Mela. In 2019, the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela experienced around 200 million visitors over the seven celebrated weeks!

Ramans Sacred Soul India retreat is underway! The tour has begun in Rishikesh, at the foothills of the Himalayas surrounded by the strong, sacred energy of Lord Shiva. Raman has guided and shared the deep significance of the sites visited like the Temple of Lord Shiva, Neelkanth Mahadev, where he came to cleanse with a fire that has continued to burn for over 25,000 years.

With breaths of air that is felt as joyful and light, this retreat has begun immensely self-settling and healing.
