South Island Overlanders

South Island Overlanders Overland and 4x4 guided tours of South Island, New Zealand, for people wanting explore in the safety and comradery of a group.

I am on my 14th 4x4 and have been Overlanding since 1983, I have driven in excess of 1.5 million kilometers exploring Africa. I have been sponsored by Land Rover and Mitsubishi as well as tyre and equiment sponsors. I have led 11 expeditions, looked for the Lost City of the Kalahari, explored sinkholes and documented pectoglyphs. I am a qualified 4x4 driving instructor, pilot, yacht skipper and bu

sh paramedic (Africa). A team of three of us won the Land Rover Trek competition in Africa (a mini media equivalent to the Camel Trophy).

Hi all
While I have been out of action I have been thinking about morphing South Island Overlanders into the Canterbury social 4x4 community – this will be for people 40+ years old. No club and no cost just some social 4x4’ing.

Then I received the following which aligns with my plans and might be of interest.

Canterbury “senior 4x4’rs”
We are new to Canterbury and are looking to meet another couple or two of the same age (60ish) to do some 4x4’ing and exploring around Canterbury – it’s always more fun travelling with some like- minded people.

We have been exploring for a number of years and are looking to make some friends to do some day trips, maybe a weekend trip here and there or even get together for a coffee and a chat on a Sunday afternoon. It’s hard making friends when you are older and new to a community!

So, firstly let me know what you think about the Canterbury Social 4x4 Community and secondly if you are 60ish and want to make some new friends let me know and I will set something up.

Please email me and let me know.

Hi All

I broke my back in 1996 and after lifting a 65kg outboard motor a few weeks ago I have done some damage to the vertebrae and have been very limited in what I can do.

Apologies for the lack of communication.

I should be back to “normal” in a few weeks and will post some summer trips then.

I am looking forward to getting onto the back roads again.

Best regards

Greg

Hi

I drove this track for the umpteenth time three weeks ago and in winter it was transformed into a muddy adventure with probably around 8 water crossings. Most of the water crossings are minor but after the rains the Okuku River crossing proved to be a challenge but awesome fun.

This is a half day trip that will introduce you to overland travel and some minor offroad adventures.

Let me know if you have any questions.
