Having had the most amazing experience on my first Silversea 18 day cruise on the Silver Dawn from Freemantle up to Singapore in March this year, I have nothing but high praise peeps.
Cruising in Lux, with a huge FUN factor that was most unexpected from a 6 star product. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy cruising with the competitor Viking, but I have to say, they lack the fun factor that Silverseas delivers in spades and the beverages are only served at set times. For eg on Silversea: pop down for a sauna, anytime and there is a huge display of champagne. The same by the pool side, none of this was just for display purposes when I naively queried what was it doing there ? Could I have a glass after my sauna or swim in the pool, yes certainly madam!
That is a huge difference right there, right now.
No sniff of stinginess anywhere.
This cruise line really celebrates and ensures their guests have a great time and unimpeded by silly rules. And loads of fun activities to get involved in, including on some of their ships a fully set up training kitchen hosted by an amazing chef, cooking regional specialties - learn from the best! Aprons, recipe to follow, your own station set up, ingredients all cut up.. ready steady cook!
As dancers, our needs were met. 2 dance hosts that had dance lessons on sea days and a great floor. The coveted on board jazz restaurant the Silver Note's staff even welcomed us with open arms, very cool intimate dining space (1 of many on board) but this one had a live jazz singer and pianist who played every night - HEAVEN if you love dancing.
Imagine having your own butler at beck and call ? I thought we wouldn't use or need that service, well guess what, we did. He was invaluable and added to our cruise enjoyment. Celebrating a birthday and a wedding anniversary, Nelson and his assistant set the cabin up with balloons, candles, culinary creations. We didn't ask, it just happened.
The daily bottle of champers (should we wanted) was more like an unbelievable miracle as that could have turned up in our cabin every night. Even a standard full bottle of London Dry Gin with Elderflower tonics appeared upon request! Other guests I met had customized bars set up in their rooms and daily pre dinner Hors oeuvre's delivered. That's a standard inclusion by the way. They even had elevated mocktails, gone are the days of the sickly Pina Colada with umbrella and bright red plastic cherry adorning the glass. Also top of the range bottled water, still or sparkling, could not possibly be desalinated and recycled tap water!
The food options on board were outstanding.
Not quantity, but quality - Michelin star in fact.
We could even go off-piste and pre order special meals, ours was a Chateau Briand - cooked to perfection. It wasn't on any menu, but it was provided, The staff ratio to guest is high and service received was the best I've ever experienced at sea. The attention to detail is beyond words!
Which brings great excitement when I caught sight of one of their very last minute cruise deals pop up today, even I'm sorely tempted to runaway to sea and get back on board again when I saw this deal.
A real bargain starting from just $10,189 NZD per person for a 14 day cruise from Honolulu to Tahiti, leaving on the 13th of September this year! Seriously if you are looking for a small ship, a bit of luxe and cruise that doesn't have the "commercial mass market feel" this one would be a good starter for 10! Money well spent and perfect if celebrating any notable birthdays or anniversaries and looking for something that is very different to the usual cruise offering that seem to get peddled out.
Realize that cruising can be done differently guys you don't need to accept standard cruises anymore as even the lowest entry cabin on a Silversea opens the door for better things! Life is too short.
