Living outside the US is one of our top goals as a family. We have always wanted to immerse our girls into a new culture and place, while making some incredible memories together. We get asked all the time where would we want to go and why?

There are so many incredible places in the world, how can we narrow it down to just one? Well… below are our top 3 places!

About 11 years ago (pre-kids) while dating, we both talked about the importance of travel and one day traveling the world with our kids to help them experience and see the world.
Fast forward several years later, after having three beautiful girls (Alyssa, Kate, and Aria), we decided to jump on an opportunity to downsize our life, move to Texas, and reprioritize our goals around spending more active time together as a family, while helping our kids experience new places and cultures!

TOP 10 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT US:

1️⃣ Ashley taught health education in both the Philippines and Kenya for several months while in College.

⁣2️⃣ Russ has worked in the travel industry for the past 15 years

⁣3️⃣ Russ is fluent in Icelandic after volunteering for his church in Iceland for two years

What are your goals when you travel with your family? What do you like to do together?

When we travel, one of our goals is to get out, be active, and experience the location. We have found it helps us get to know the location better, and helps us find some pretty amazing places! When planning our trip to Austria we new there would be plenty of opportunities to get out an be active as a family together. People had told told us of the amazing things to do, views, and sites.… and we weren’t disappointed!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are our top five active things we did in Austria (for families)!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kayaking: Where you find a lake in Austria, you will find kayak rentals nearby! One of our favorite places to do this was in Hallstatt.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Family Friendly Hiking Trails: There are so many incredible hiking trails that are made for families and kids in Austria. These trails are designed to have kids activities every 100-200 meters where kids can play and explore. Our kids had a blast visiting Juppi Zauberwald!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alpine Playgrounds: In addition to the amazing hikes, there are some pretty awesome playgrounds. It’s not hard to find a great playground, but one that our kids loved was the Spruce Tree Castle. Just google this, and your mind with be blown!

SUP: If you love SUP or are new to trying it out, Austria is a great place to get hooked! The lakes in Austria are crystal clear and calm - offering the perfect conditions!

Mountain Biking: Check out our earlier post on “e-biking”. Genius idea for families with smaller kids! E-bikes are normal mountain bikes with a small propulsion system to help with hills. There are so many amazing trails, but hills can be hard on little kids. These bikes make it so much easier!!

🤩Have you ever been to a destination that shocked you?? 🤩

Slovenia... We had heard good things, seen pretty pictures, but could it be as amazing as everyone says?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IT WAS!!! Every sight we saw in Slovenia blew our minds and hearts. We loved it and did not get enough time exploring. We can’t wait to return one day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Vintgar Gorge was beautiful, blue rushing river carved between the tall gorge walls. There is a wooden planked path attached to these walls, which allows people to get up and close to the beautiful water. When hiking down the gorge, Alyssa and Kate ran in front of us and hiked the whole way by themselves and loved it. Our little 3 yr old Aria however, has learned a new thing when hiking. After hiking about half way she stops dead in her tracks 😬 and demands to jump aboard the mom 👩🏼 or dad 👱🏼‍♂️train because she is tired. Thank heavens for

Have you ever been to a place where you have to pinch yourself to confirm to you this is real life?? 😍We recently had that kind of experience a few weeks ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Standing on a paddle-board, enjoying the blue skies, and being surround by the mountains, what could be more relaxing! This was just what doctor ordered 🤣We had the most FUN day on Lake Fuschlee outside of Salzburg with our girls. We worked with to get some great SUP, and they quickly got us out on the lake.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After almost 2 hours on the lake, it was time to go back 😫we could have stayed out there for hours! Each one of our girls absolutely loved it, and wished they had their own board. Aria (aka little fish) couldn't get enough of jumping off the boards into the lake 🧜‍♀️.

This is what family time is all about - no TVs, no iPads, just pure old fashion family adventure in the beautiful outdoors! 🙌🙌
