What springs to mind when you hear the word "Iraq"? 🌍

Most people tell me: "It’s dangerous." "It's war-torn." "I'd never travel there."

Swipe through these photos, and you will see a completely different reality. 📸

I recently returned from exploring this incredible country, and the faces in these images represent some of the most hospitable, welcoming, and genuinely curious people on the planet.✨

The stories behind these photos:

Baghdad: Meeting the hilarious hotel cleaner —we bonded over tattoos (ask me about her story sometime, it's wild!).

The Streets: The young sisters who paused their day just to spend time with us, and the passionate food vendors eager to share their treats.

The Mosques: The warm, welcoming women who invited us into their sacred spaces.

Kurdistan: The proud Kurds in Northern Iraq who generously shared their history, culture, and deep love for their people.

Not once did I feel unsafe. Far from it—I felt entirely looked after and welcomed with open arms.

This is exactly why I travel: to look past the headlines, break stereotypes, and experience the world with total clarity.

Travelling to Iraq with Madventure was one of those journeys that stays with you long after you’re home. This wasn’t just a trip — it was an immersion into a country layered with history, hospitality, complexity, and moments that challenge everything you think you know about the region.

From wandering through the ancient streets of Baghdad to sharing tea with locals who were genuinely excited to welcome travellers again, Iraq offered a depth and authenticity that’s hard to put into words. These are the kinds of destinations that remind me why I do what I do: travel that expands perspective, builds connection, and leaves you changed in the best possible way.

We were fortunate to have Rich with us — a talented videographer who captured the spirit of the journey beautifully. His video brings the experience to life far better than any caption ever could.
