Winters coming.
Are you thinking about keeping yourselves and your family warm and cosy?? Looking to insulate the ceiling of your home this year??
Here’s a tip regarding insulation and recessed lighting.
Before installing any insulation around your downlights. You need to firstly check the downlight’s CA rating.
Attached is a photo that shows the 5 categories for CA ratings.
To check what ratings your downlight’s have, contact our team or there should be a sticker on the top of the downlight’s (seen from above inside the roof space). This rating will show you how close your insulation can be to that downlight.
A lot of the old downlight’s won’t have a CA rating and all insulation will need to be kept well clear of those downlight's. Keeping insulation away will cause gaps in your insulation, this will let heat escape, but having insulation too close to a downlight (that does not have a CA rating) will cause the light fitting to create a lot more heat. This increased heat could cause a fire.
Here at The Trade Bureau, we can replace any old downlight’s with modern energy saving, long life, LED options.
LED options that allow insulation to be abutted next to them and also some fittings which allow insulation to cover them completely, which would mean no gaps in your insulation.
LED's are available in different colour's, brightness levels, dimming/non-dimming, tilting/non-tilting, even waterproof options to suit your home, just contact our team.
