I never thought sheep would become one of the highlights of my tours.

Yet here we are.

One of the most common comments I hear from visitors is:

"That was my favourite part of the day."

Particularly the Valais Blacknose sheep—often described as the world's cutest sheep.

But what guests really love isn't just seeing them. It's meeting the people behind the farm, hearing their story, and getting a glimpse into a way of life that's quite different from what many visitors experience at home.

It's a reminder that some of the most memorable travel experiences are often the simplest.

Everyone knows Central Otago for Pinot Noir.

But after years of showing visitors around the region, I've realised the wine is often just the beginning.

The stories behind the vineyards. The families who have farmed this land for generations. The old stone buildings tucked away down gravel roads. The characters you'll only meet if you know where to stop.

Some of my favourite days aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest wines or the most famous cellar doors.

This ANZAC, I had the privilege of spending it with loved ones in Te Anau, which is the gateway of Fiordland National Park.

There’s something about being here, surrounded by vast landscapes and quiet reflection, that brings a deeper appreciation for those who came before us. Their courage, their sacrifice, and the legacy they’ve left behind.

At Obelisk Tours, it’s moments like these, grounded in place, story, and meaning - that shape how we share Aotearoa with our guests.
