Kopikopiko o te Waka translates as 'the capsized canoe' and is a treasured Ngai Tahu creation story. Bring along a picnic and enjoy learning about the rich history of the area while taking in the incredible views ☀

Sunday morning pancakes anyone? 🥞

Punakaiki, otherwise known as Pancake Rocks, is one of the jewels in the crown of the Buller region – and for good reason. Apart from the fact you get to travel on the Great Coast Road (recognised as one of the top 10 coastal drives in the world), this one-of-a-kind landmark is well worth the trip. The limestone rocks are unique in that they are subject to two processes: the karst erosion, whereby chemicals and water flows create hollows and holes, coupled with the natural sea erosion. The regular layering of these rocks is caused by a process called stylobedding, a combination of high pressure coupled with compaction. The upshot to all this is that at high tide, the force of the water shoots up through the blowholes created by the millions of years of constant activity, providing some spectacular sights and opportunities for photos.

Regarded as home to the best swimming beach on the West Coast, Carter’s Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park is handy for a full range of activities. In the park you can enjoy everything from a hot tub overlooking the ocean, or a barbecue using the camp’s covered BBQ area, through to free body boards to use, the kids’ favourite, the jumping pillow - pedal-powered go karts, and plenty of room in which to use them and a well-stocked games room. Like the rest of the historical Buller region, make sure staying at Carters Beach TOP 10 is on your list of must-do’s! ☀🤩

We recently had two nights in Gisborne, first on the list was Rere Falls & the Rere Rockslide, we got there and had the place to ourselves, I let the kids slide first and once I knew it was safe, it was my turn😅 - In Gisborne we stayed right on the beach at the Waikanae Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park in their Apartment suite. Like a fancy hotel except you have the use of all the park's facilities, playground, heated pool with waterslide, took the Fun Bikes out and explored the boardwalk, the TOP 10 is super central and right on the beach! Also had a food cart on site, Papas Tapas - so good.
Family walk to the top of Kaiti Hill, views for days.
Visited the waterfront by the famous Gizzy Sign and snuck in a couple beers. Hung out with massive Stingrays in Tatapouri that you get to hand feed, checked out the farmers market and enjoyed evenings on the beach goofing around.
I hadn't been to Gisborne since being a drunken 22 year old 'partying-it-up' at Rhythm and Vines, was good to finally get here and properly explore the place. Yes we would have missed some 'MUST DO's' so share them below - cheers!

Can you spot the resident heron in this picture? He's pretty famous at the Park! Did you know that all of these beachfront pods are named after local birdlife? Heron, kereru, tui, pīwakawaka and kōtare (kingfisher)🐦The smaller pods are named after local shellfish 🐚🤩

A must do when you're staying at Red Beach TOP 10 is exploring the Parks own private beach, Jacobs Ladder. With safe swimming and fishing, the beach is only 100m from the Park, making it the perfect spot for any visitor! ☀
