Where in the world?🧐

Where in the world can you watch a stunning sunrise over about two thousand ancient temples and pagodas from different periods? This place was abandoned in the mid-13th century after a series of invasions. In 2016, a major earthquake hit this place and damaged nearly 400 temples.

RATCHAPHRUEK – THE GOLDEN BLOOM OF THAILAND 🇹🇭🌼

Bright, bold, and unmistakably golden—the Ratchaphruek (or Golden Shower Tree) is Thailand’s national flower, and it’s hard to miss when it’s in bloom.

🌼 Found across Thailand, especially in April and May, its hanging clusters of yellow flowers create a striking contrast against clear blue skies.
🌼 The colour yellow is deeply symbolic in Thai culture—representing Buddhism, royalty, and particularly associated with King Rama IX, who was born on a Monday (a day linked with the colour yellow in Thai tradition).
🌼 You’ll often see the Ratchaphruek planted in temple gardens, public parks, and along roadsides.

Known for blooming in full just before the Thai New Year (Songkran Festival), the Ratchaphruek is more than just a beautiful tree—it’s a symbol of unity, prosperity, and cultural pride.

Have you visited Thailand during blooming season? It’s an incredible time to see this golden tree in full glory. 🌼✨

From Singapore to Darwin:An Expedition Through the Islands of Indonesia 🇮🇩🛳️🇦🇺

If you’re dreaming of a holiday that’s not your typical island getaway, this 17-night small-ship cruise might just be your kind of adventure.

Departing from Singapore in January 2026, this Coral Expeditions journey takes you far beyond the usual tourist spots. Sail through the quiet backwaters, forgotten trading ports, and remote island communities of Indonesia before finishing in sunny Darwin, Australia.

Along the way, you’ll:
🌊 Snorkel vibrant coral reefs and swim off deserted white-sand beaches
🐉 Spot Komodo dragons and hike scenic trails on Padar Island
🏡 Discover traditional boat-building in Tana Beru and Toraja funeral customs
🌴 Visit small island communities, enjoy local music, and learn from onboard experts
🌋 Explore volcanic landscapes, megalithic sites, and ancient villages

This cruise is all about slowing down, seeing what lies off the map, and travelling in comfort on a purpose-built Australian ship with a small group of like-minded explorers.

One to keep in mind if you’re after something very different for early 2026. Would this kind of trip be on your list?

Why Are Amazon River Dolphins Pink? 🐬💗

One of the Amazon’s most fascinating creatures is the pink river dolphin. But why are they pink?

Unlike ocean dolphins, Amazon river dolphins (also called botos) start out grey and gradually turn pink as they age. The exact reason isn’t fully understood, but scientists believe it could be a mix of genetics, diet, water temperature, and even how much they move around. Interestingly, males tend to be pinker than females—possibly because the brighter colour helps attract a mate.

Some also say scars from play-fighting and rubbing against riverbanks expose the pink underneath, so older dolphins often end up the brightest.

These freshwater dolphins are found only in the Amazon and Orinoco river systems. They’re a little chunkier than their sea cousins, have a long snout, and a flexible neck that helps them twist and turn through flooded forests.

Would you love to see one in the wild? 🐬💗

Destination Highlight: Port Douglas, QLD 🇦🇺☀️

Looking for a warm-weather escape during the New Zealand winter? Port Douglas in Far North Queensland is a popular option because the dry season there means blue skies, low humidity and daytime temperatures around 25°C in our winter.

Set between the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, Port Douglas is known for its tropical vibe, palm-lined beaches, and relaxed pace. It’s the kind of place where you can spend your days snorkelling on the reef, wandering through the rainforest, or just enjoying a quiet coffee in town.

If you're someone who likes nature, sunshine and not having to wear a puffer jacket in July — this one might be worth keeping on your radar. 🌴
