Our colleague Kirsten recently explored Stewart Island and stayed in the new Beaks & Feathers boutique accommodation. We can highly recommend this accommodation offering two trendy well-appointed stand-alone units. Both are spacious with the lounge / kitchen opening onto a large deck area where you can enjoy the long summer evenings and views of native bush teeming with local bird life. It is located close to all amenities – only a short 5 – 10 minute walk away from Oban and local eateries.

Our colleague Kirsten recently had a chance to experience the new two-day, one-night Waitai Lodge Fiordland Escape with Hollyford Wilderness Experience and Ngai Tahu Tourism.
Waitai Lodge is located in Martins Bay, a remote part of the rugged Southwest Fiordland. Despite the remote location, Waitai Lodge and its home comforts await guests. The two-day experience includes return helicopter flights from Milford Sound to Martins Bay, two diverse guided half day walks (optional), amazing food, scenic jet boat ride, wood fired hot tubs, a lunch cruise aboard The Jewel with Fiordland Discovery and return transfers from Te Anau or Queenstown.

What a privilege to explore remote Fiordland with Heritage Expeditions. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to experience Dusky Sound with the 18-guest expedition yacht Heritage Explorer. Words and photos cannot describe the beauty of this isolated area. It started with a scenic helicopter flight with Southern Lakes Helicopters between Te Anau and Supper Cove. We encountered Bottlenose Dolphins and New Zealand Fur Seals. We explored using the tenders, visiting historic sites and going out on nature walks. I can’t speak highly enough of the crew including the knowledgeable expedition leaders and talented chef.
