Covid put us in hibernation for 2 years but today we are stoked to have welcomed our first group back to the marae and to Waiheke!

Our Matariki celebration produced Kawakawa balm made by the community and Piritahi Marae whānau and we were able to share this with our manuhiri 💚🫶🏽💚

Covid-19 has allowed us to rethink what we are doing and our focus for the future. Ara Taiao is a programme for rangatahi and the first will be with our young people of Waiheke. The first wānanga we have Heeni Hoterene teaching about maramataka or the Māori lunar calendar and how to plan in accordance with the phases of the moon. Ara Taiao focuses on whanaungatanga, connection to environment, overnight wilderness journeys, voluntary work and developing gardening and fishing skills. Our aim is to equip our rangatahi with traditional knowledge for the wellbeing of our environment and for future generations. Thank you to Ami Cusack Ani Morris Ricky Russell Hinemoa Elder Jan Robertson for being there through the development process and for your support. Our tohu was designed by Hikawai Te Nahu of (Instagram) It incorporates elements of whakairo that represent flow or ara. The colour red representing the nourishment and soil of Papatūānuku and the ability for all to prosper and grow ❤️🤍🖤 We now have our first group from Waiheke and are looking forward to our wānanga on 15&16 August! We look forward to having rangatahi from other parts of Te Ika a Māui join us in the near future!
