💫🌟 We are super close to launching our night tours 🌟💫

With the status in South Wairarapa, it just confirms what our ancestors have known for many generations. The stars carry the stories of our past, our present and our future. There is also no better place than Wairarapa to view the stars. Of course we are bias!

Can't wait to share details with you all. We're currently researching, testing and making sure each part of our night tours is top notch. We are only 75 minutes from Wellington City.

We will leave you with a photo we took ourselves on our old HUAWEI VOG-L09 mobile phone, from the South Wairarapa skies on 1st of May 2020.

📝☕️ Behind the scenes of creating our Wairarapa tours ☕️📝

This is where it all starts — discussions, research, manuscripts, ideas on the table, and upholding the principles of our ancestors to ensure we share stories about this place with care.

We don’t have an office.
We meet locally, support local cafés, and build our tours the same way we run them — thoughtfully, collaboratively, and grounded in place.

Every detail you experience on tour begins here.

At Wairarapa Tours, everyone is welcome here 🌈

We are proudly a safe, inclusive space for our rainbow and trans whānau.

Our tours are about connection — to place, to stories, and to each other. That means travelling in an environment grounded in manaakitanga, respect, and aroha, where you can show up as your full self and feel safe doing so.

If you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or an ally travelling with whānau and friends, know this: you belong here.

What makes our tours unique?

At Wairarapa Tours, we don’t start with an itinerary — we start with our connection, place, and responsibility.

Our tours are shaped by an Indigenous cultural approach that centres relationship over transaction. That means we take time to share the stories of the whenua (land), the history that lives in the landscape, and the context that helps visitors truly understand where they are, not just to drive pass without context.

Rather than ticking off highlights, we focus on:

👉 Depth over speed – fewer stops, richer stories
👉 Small groups – space for kōrero, questions, and connection
👉 Local knowledge – stories you won’t find online or in guidebooks

Care for place – tourism that respects the environment and community.

This approach is different from many tourism options because it’s not about seeing more, it’s about seeing differently.

If you’re looking for an experience that honours Wairarapa, its ancestors, its people, and its stories, we’d love to welcome you on tour.

💫 Our first tours taught us a lot 💫

🍃 We learned that people want to slow down.
🌄 That stories change how places are seen.
👥 That small groups create deeper connection.

Most of all, we learned how much people value experiencing Wairarapa through local voices and lived knowledge.

We’re still learning, still refining, and feeling grateful for everyone who’s joined us so far and helped shape what this kaupapa is becoming. Thank You to Our First Guests as well, we appreciate your feedback to ensure we make these events better.

If you’re ready to experience Wairarapa differently, our next tour dates are now live.

🌟💫 Our Recommendation in Wairarapa 💫🌟

You should DEFINITELY stop at in Taratahi (Carterton). Kainga Eatery is Māori infused kai (food).

🍽 We recommend their new menu item the Platter for One. It is a selection of all their popular dishes on one plate. Allowing you to taste them all.

☕️ The kawhe (coffee) is always on 🔥

Plus a great selection of yummy cabinet food and treats, with a chill vibe environment.
