ng sun, the details in the smallest of insects, an amazing reflection in a tiny water drop, or a bird flying out of the water with a huge fish in its beak! Or perhaps a beautiful bride and groom on their wedding day, the smile on a baby's face.. It's all so wonderful to experience and be a part of. I know that is practically impossible, but by this medium I can share my happiness with others and hope that it affects them in a positive way.

Coming across this Tinamou species was really intriguing seeing this one out in the open about 20m away just enjoying the shallow water in a stream with absolutely no care in the world of my presence. In Trinidad we have the Little Tinamou and it is one of the most secretive of our resident species, always heard but rarely seen.
This was another wake up call to how conservation and protected spaces make the biggest difference in how skittish and approachable birds/ wildlife can be when we can respect their spaces.
I believe that through our shared efforts, we can foster a deeper mindfulness within our twin islands, ensuring we fully embrace the paradise we are so fortunate to inhabit.

From my first interaction with trogons in Trinidad & Tobago more than a decade ago they have always shown to be an extremely calm and observant species.
In Panama this also proved to be true as well, one of my good pals in the birding tour business Barry R who made the trip with me swears that he rubbed one of these Trogons on the belly. Lol he made me laugh and it was hard to believe at first, but I accepted what he said to be true as we discussed his awesome moment with these wild but extremely approachable specimens.
Another reminder how the beauty of conservation is so rewarding in more ways than we can imagine.

A brief encounter with this beauty way out in the distance at the top of the Canopy Tower was quite the reward. One of those fleeting moments, with so much going on, you get just a glimpse and a single click. I made it count, as I was thrilled to add another lifer to the bucket list.

This easy going species reminded me a lot of our Palm and Blue Gray Tanagers, I personally think it needs a name update. I would have called it the Ash Gray Tanager. :) Another lifer to the list.

Scarlet-rumped Tanager (Ramphocelus passerinii). This handsome specimen with its show stopping brilliancy was quite a sighting, and a new species making for another lifer.

Ever so often a willing subject and another lifer that presents itself for an easy photo opportunity. A reminder, on this trip we had zero birding guides and visited no lodges, so being out in the forests in Panama without playback and just freestyling it is really a game of chance.
Thankfully with some good experience in bird photography in the wilds of Trinidad where birds many times can be very skittish, made me appreciate the beauty of the calm and receptive behavior of species in a protected habitat. A reminder also of how much work needs to be done towards conservation efforts in our twin island paradise.

Fasciated AntshrikeCymbilaimus lineatus
Coming across this beauty had me somewhat bewildered as I observed closely what to my eyes looks like a cross between a Barred Antshrike & Great Antshrike both resident species which I am very familiar with in Trinidad & Tobago. Is it just me, or do you see the similarities as well?

Green Hermit feeding chicks

Wendell Stephen Jay Reyes is an artist that enjoys being immersed in nature and the peace that comes with it. He hopes that his work educates and inspires others to appreciate the natural world around us, so much as to go outside, travel, explore, enjoy, learn and share. In the above photo taken at Asa Wright Nature Center a few years ago, this Green hermit feeds her two young, just a couple days old.
