The Portmanteau Press

The Portmanteau Press Eddie Hart is writer/photographer from Sydney who feels most at home when living out of a suitcase. Hello! Welcome to The Portmanteau Press.

A blog designed to share my wanderlust, travel experiences and tips with likeminded globetrotters. My name is Eddie Hart, I'm a 25 year old from Sydney, Australia. After years of working in the media, I've decided to pack up my suitcase and combine my wanderlust with my passion for writing and photography. I suffer from the affliction of 'farsickness'. When I'm not on the road, I have a deep longi

ng to be on a plane somewhere exciting. My wanderlust has seen me travel to 40+ different countries and live in cities including London, Paris, Berlin and New York. I hope to inspire and connect with other nomads across the world. So, if you're always daydreaming about your next destination, this is the site for you.

On my last journey to the mysterious ancient citadel Machu Picchu I was aggressively photobombed by some cheeky local llamas (swipe to see!). This time around I managed to get a photo in peace! @ Machupicchu, Cusco, Peru

En route to the ‘Lost City of the Incas’ on board the Hiram Bingham earlier this year. The luxurious Pullman-style train winds through the majestic Andean landscape towards Machu Picchu. Passengers dine on exquisite Peruvian cuisine, sip pisco sours and dance to the lively tunes played by a local band. This trip is very much about the journey AND the destination! 🌾🚂 @ Peru

My trip to Peru earlier this year with feels like a lifetime ago. The adventure began on a sunny afternoon in Lima exploring Museo Larco. The museum is crammed full of pre-Columbian artefacts and treasures from ancient Peru (gold, jewels and ceramics galore!). It’s worth visiting for the gardens alone 🌵🌸

Just outside of Buenos Aires, there’s a gorgeous Argentinian riverside town called Tigre. It’s where porteños go for romantic weekends away. How dreamy are the sun-drenched interiors of this B&B set in a neoclassical palazzo-style mansion 🌿Hotel Del Casco is a true hidden gem!

One of the most beautiful bookstores in the world is tucked away in the Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. The former theatre retains its original features such as the Italian frescoed ceiling, intricate balconies and red curtains that boldly drape the stage 📚 ✨

Buenos Aires is a city that gets under your skin. To soak up the vibrant sights and sounds of Argentina’s capital, I made a beeline for the working-class barrio of La Boca. The neighbourhood is famous for its brightly-painted streets, which are alive with tango dancers performing to a backdrop of colourful murals. It’s a sensory overload in the best possible way 💃 ❣️

The first time I ever went horse riding was in South America. Looking back, it does seem like a strange place to learn. Especially with limited Spanish language skills. I guess I was inspired by the local ‘gaucho’ (cowboy) culture in southern Chile and Argentina; the romance of riding horseback through the golden pampas (grasslands). In Mendoza, we weaved the dusty roads between wineries, with a backdrop of vineyards and the snow-capped Andes. And funnily enough, I became much more confident with each sip of Malbec along the way!!🐴 🍇

One of my favourite things about travelling to foreign, faraway lands is the way the experience heightens your senses. You take the time to appreciate beauty in simple things that otherwise might escape your notice in the humdrum of everyday life 🌵Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the flowers 🌸
