The Q’eswachaka is recognized worldwide as the last Inca bridge. Located at 3,700 meters above sea level in the district of Quehue (Cusco), this 28-meter-long suspension bridge is constructed entirely from plant fiber (ichu) using engineering techniques dating back more than 500 years.
The tradition continues to be recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
For the annual renewal, four Quechua communities (Huinchiri, Chaupibanda, Qollana Quehue, and Chocayhua) come together to dismantle the old bridge and weave a new one in a four-day ritual.
