Back in 2015, during the drought in Manus, my brother and I bought this water pump for around K900 from a small shop in Lorengau, inside the old Copra Shed. We used it to pump water 100 metres from our creek into a 9000-litre tank for drinking and watering our garden. Eleven years later, the same pump is still going strong, now pumping water from a well into 44-gallon drums at my home in Morobe. I'll be taking it back to Manus again to pump water from my creek if El Niño conditions worsen.

Kair has over 200,000 followers, while Des has around 45,000. Kair may understand how social media marketing works, and engagement is often the goal. Think critically before reacting.

Enough with the sea piracy conspiracy theories. Who in their right mind would go out looking to attack another boat in weather like that? Let's stop the speculation and keep the victims and their families in our thoughts.

A life jacket doesn't guarantee survival, but it can greatly increase your chances. In the warm tropical waters of PNG, a healthy person wearing a properly fitted life jacket may survive for 3–7 days without fresh water, although some have survived longer under favorable conditions. Dehydration, sun exposure, and rough seas are the biggest threats. I'm still feeling hopeful that there are survivors, and I continue to pray for their safe rescue.

I don't want to wake up to another heartbreaking update about missing boats in East New Britain. My thoughts and prayers are with the families, especially the children. I sincerely hope they are found safe and alive.

This is a stark reminder to all of us in the tourism and boating industry that the safety of our passengers must always come before everything else. No trip, schedule, or profit is worth risking a human life. Let's continue to prioritize proper safety equipment, weather assessments, and responsible decision-making every time we head out to sea.

Praying for a safe return of everyone still missing.

Keep a lookout

🚨MISSING BOAT UPDATES:
Reports of 2x banana boats from Karavar and Palpal, sank at approximately 1500hrs today (18/07/26), just off the outskirts of Pegeon island.

Only two members of the group manage to swim ashore to Bai village SSM.

Please alert any friends or relatives living around the SSM area to look for any signs of survivors along the coast.

One thing I really like about BSP's Deposit ATMs in Lae is the convenience. If you need to make an urgent cash deposit on a weekend, you don't have to wait for the branch to open. I've successfully used the Deposit ATMs at Downtown and Top Town, and they've made banking much easier. Just make sure you use the ATMs clearly labelled "Withdrawal/Deposit", as not all machines accept cash deposits. I've also heard the Eriku ATM has deposit capability, although I haven't tried it there yet. It's a great service that saves time and makes banking far more convenient.
