Please avoid touching unfamiliar marine creatures —some, like the flower urchin (Toxopneustes pileolus), are highly venomous.
This species is indeed found in the Philippines, typically in shallow waters near coral reefs and rocky areas. Stay cautious and enjoy the sea safely.

As the dry season begins and more visitors head to our coasts, the National Museum of the Philippines reminds the public to exercise caution while exploring Philippine beaches.

One of the species you might encounter on our beaches is the 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧 (𝘛𝘰𝘹𝘰𝘱𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘴). But don’t be deceived by its name! Flower urchins are considered the "𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧" by the Guinness World Records in 2014. Its toxin can cause muscle paralysis, numbness, and breathing difficulty that may lead to accidental drowning among divers.

This species of sea urchin is found in shallow waters, inhabiting coral reefs and rocks, scraping off algae, preventing it from overgrowing the coral community. They are abundant and widely distributed in Philippine waters, so next time you go to the beach, be vigilant. Staying informed and practicing responsible coastal behavior helps ensure both personal safety and the protection of marine biodiversity.

Clark to Serve as New Base for CebGo and AirSwift Effective March 29, 2026

Cebu Pacific announced that starting March 29, additional CebGo and AirSwift turboprop services will transfer from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Clark International Airport. This follows the government’s directive to remove turboprop aircraft from NAIA to help reduce airport congestion.
The change will affect routes to and from Coron (Busuanga), Naga, and El Nido.
Passengers impacted by the shift may choose a refund, complimentary rebooking, or convert their ticket value into a travel fund.

With turboprop slots vacated at NAIA, Cebu Pacific will also add more flights on selected local routes and expand services to some international destinations, including Hong Kong and Kaohsiung.

CLARK BECOMES NEW HUB FOR CEBGO, AIRSWIFT FLIGHTS

Cebu Pacific said more CebGo and AirSwift turboprop flights will shift operations from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Clark International Airport beginning March 29, as part of the government-mandated phaseout of turbopropp operations at NAIA to ease congestion.

The move covers flights to and from Coron (Busuanga), Naga, and El Nido, with affected passengers given the option of a refund, free rebooking, or conversion of fares into a travel fund.

As turboprop slots are freed up at NAIA, the airline also announced increased frequencies on several domestic routes and select international destinations, including Hong Kong and Kaohsiung.
