The Committee on Tourism of the Sangguniang Bayan of Biri, Northern Samar conducted a Committee Hearing today, March 16, 2026 at 3:00 PM, held at the New SB Session Hall and presided over by Hon. James Dave Garcia, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism.

The hearing was attended by the following resource persons who are members of the Local Finance Committee:
• Salve Delos Reyes, Municipal Budget Officer
• Oliva Doncillo, Municipal Treasurer
• Engr. Ricky Villanueva, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC)
Ms. Joy Araojo, the HRMO
The committee deliberated on the Draft Ordinance Regulating and/or Fixing the Rental Fees of ATVs as Recreational Activities at Busay Hills, Brgy. Kauswagan, Biri.

Proposed provisions discussed include:
• ₱300.00 ATV rental fee for a 2-hour ride (good for one tourist/passenger only)
• ₱50.00 rental fee from the Tourism Information Center (Busay Approach) to Busay Rocks for one pax who knows how to drive, with guidance from the assigned tour guide
• ₱25.00 entrance fee per tourist to be collected by the private landowners
The said draft ordinance is scheduled to be presented in a Public Hearing, with the date to be announced soon.

🎉 SUCCESSFUL FBSE TRAINING CONDUCTED IN BIRI, NORTHERN SAMAR! 🇵🇭✨
The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VIII, represented by Ma’am Donna Joy in lieu of Regional Director Karina Rosa S. Tiopes, successfully conducted the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) Training today, January 28, 2026, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Biri, Northern Samar, spearheaded by the Municipal Tourism Office.
The 8-hour training was participated in by the members of Sto. Niño Motorboat Association (SMBODA) of Brgy. Sto. Niño, motorboat owners and crews of Brgy. Poblacion, as well as hotel owners and staff—our valued tourism frontliners.
Participants were warmly welcomed by the ever-supportive Mayor Hon. Antonio Delos Reyes, Jr. The activity was also graced by Vice Mayor Ana B. Araojo, who delivered her inspiring closing remarks, and SB Member Mary Jean T. Siabal, Vice Chairperson of the SB Committee on Tourism, who shared her message of support and PPSK President Franz Asis who was also in attendance.
Essential inputs and practical insights were shared by the Resource Speaker, Sir Ronald Ricafort, City Tourism Officer of Calbayog City, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver excellent service to guests and tourists visiting Biri.
This training aims to strengthen our frontliners’ commitment to quality service, Filipino hospitality, and tourism excellence—ensuring a more meaningful and memorable experience for every visitor to Biri. 🌊🌞

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT | POSTPONEMENT OF 2026 KAWAY FESTIVAL 📣

To our dear constituents and festival supporters,
Please be informed that the 2026 Kaway Festival, originally scheduled on January 25, 2026, will be postponed and moved to June 2026.
After careful assessment and collective deliberation, the Municipal Tourism Council has agreed to postpone the celebration due to the following valid reasons:
1️⃣ The SK budgets for CY 2026 are not yet approved by the Sangguniang Bayan. In accordance with the law, the disbursement of funds without an approved budget is illegal.
2️⃣ There is a lack of manpower, despite the adjustment of participant age requirements from 12 to 30 years old.
3️⃣ The current rainy season and frequent rainfall have made it difficult to conduct proper rehearsals and preparations.
4️⃣ The periodical examinations of high school students are scheduled on January 23–24, 2026, which may affect participation.
Given these circumstances, the postponement is necessary to ensure a well-prepared, lawful, inclusive, and successful celebration of the Kaway Festival.
We sincerely ask for your understanding and continued support. Further updates regarding the June 2026 schedule will be announced soon.

🌊 CORAL GEOGRAPHER RETURNS TO BIRI FOR THE 3RD TIME! 🌊
December 11, 2025 marks another memorable milestone for the Municipality of Biri as we warmly welcomed the Coral Geographer Expeditions Cruise Ship on its third consecutive visit to our island! 🛳️✨

A total of 82 international guests and 9 cruise crew members disembarked at 7:00 AM to explore, experience adventure, meet our locals, and immerse themselves in the rich culture of Biri. Their visit lasted for about 4 hours, filled with smiles, stories, and unforgettable encounters.

They were officially welcomed by our municipal officials headed by Mayor Antonio Delos Reyes, Jr.. We also extend our gratitude to DOT Region VIII and the Northern Samar Provincial Tourism Office for their full support and guidance throughout the event.

👏 Special thanks to our dedicated local service providers — transport drivers, tour guides, habal-habal drivers, MEDICS headed by MHO Dr. Felani Araojo and teachers who served as demonstrators. Your continued partnership over these three consecutive years has been instrumental, and this year marks our biggest turnout yet!

🎶💃 The festive atmosphere was made even livelier by the amazing performances of the BNHS Drum and Lyre Corps and our talented Curacha dancers. Thank you for showcasing the vibrant culture of Biri!

🥾🌴 With the Biri Rock Formations now officially declared a National Geological Monument by the National Committee on Geological Sciences, we are honored to share our natural treasures with the world.
