On Thursday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres marked 80 years since the signing of the UN Charter — the Organization’s founding document, which sets out its principles, purposes and structure for promoting peace, security and global cooperation.
“Eighty years ago, from the ashes of war, the world planted a seed of hope,” he told the UN General Assembly, adding: “That peace is possible when humanity stands together.”
“Today, we see assaults on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter like never before.”
The Secretary-General urged countries to uphold the Charter — its spirit, its responsibilities and its call to build a better future of peace, justice and progress for ‘we the peoples’. https://www.un.org/sg/en/content/sg/statement/2025-06-26/secretary-general
