Message to U.S. Citizens: Typhoon Season in the Philippines (2026)

https://ph.usembassy.gov/weather-alert-typhoon-season-in-the-philippines-2026/

Location: The Philippines
Event: 2026 Typhoon Season

Summary:
Typhoons can strike the Philippines year-round, with nearly 85-90% occurring between May and October. Based on historical trends, 10–14 tropical cyclones may enter or form in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between May and October, with more expected later in the year.
Typhoons can bring heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, landslides, storm surges, and power outages. U.S. citizens in the Philippines should be prepared and vigilant throughout the year.

Actions to Take:
1. Stay Informed by monitoring weather warning announcements

•PAGASA: Official Philippine government forecasts and typhoon warnings
•JTWC (Joint Typhoon Warning Center): U.S. military forecasts for the Western Pacific
•Local government alerts and barangay-level announcements

2. Prepare a “Go Bag” with survival necessities

•Copies of your passport and important documents
•Prescription medicine (at least one week’s supply)
•A flashlight, batteries, and a power bank
•Bottled water and food that doesn’t spoil
•Cash (ATMs and card readers may not work)
•First-aid kit and battery-powered radio

3. Make a Safety Plan:
•Know if you live in a flood zone or an area at risk of landslides or storm surge.
•Learn evacuation routes and the location of nearby shelters.
•Set up a communication plan with family and friends in case you lose power or signal.

4. Prepare Your Home
•Ensure drainage systems are clear of debris.
•Tie down outdoor items.
•Trim overhanging branches.
•Identify a safe place inside your home to shelter during a storm.

5. Use Caution During and After Storms
•Avoid floodwaters, fallen trees, and downed power lines.
•Don’t drive through flooded roads.
•Follow instructions from local officials and emergency services.

POV: You move to the Philippines and suddenly the bathroom comes with free seafood. 🦀🚽

Walked into our bathroom in Butuan City 6 years ago and nearly had a heart attack when I saw a crab sitting at the base of the toilet like he paid rent too. Never in my life did I expect to battle a crustacean before my morning coffee. 😂
