One of the features of Rainbow Ville is the harnessing of renewable sources of energy for its operations. It is now using solar energy for pumping water for its plants and to power part of its lighting system. Today, we reached another milestone because the team headed by Sir Rommel E. Esperida operationalized and activated the solar powered irrigation system for our 1/2 hectare rice field which will be planted with RC 160 registered seeds.

In December 2022, the price of onions in the Philippines reached ₱700/kilo. This prompted us to try to conduct a training on onion production. This did not happen because of the lack of expert. Despite this, we planted a few onions in one of the plots in Rainbow Ville a few months ago Last week, we already harvested our onions. Proof that onions thrive in Balasan. This inspired us to go into large scale planting of onions in Rainbow Ville this year.

Rainbow Ville won first prize in the year-long, hotly contested MorProGRes Gardens Contest Academe-College Category as announced in the well-attended awarding ceremony today held in the Provincial Capitol of Iloilo. Rainbow Ville received a plaque of recognition, trophy and cash prize amounting to two hundred thousand pesos (₱200,000,00). Hon. Filomeno V. Ganzon, Municipal Mayor of Balasan, Iloilo; Dr. Ariel Reckonette B. Villanueva, Vocational School Superintendent of LGPC; Mr. Angelito Blancaver, Municipal Agriculture Officer of Balasan; Mr. Adones B. Baldevarona; Mr. Adonis L. Antay; and Mr. Ronald Arisme; all of LGPC received the award.
Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. explained during his message that the contest is an initiative of the Provincial Government to promote gardening, food security, environmental resilience and promote agricultural tourism in the province. Among others, it also aims to establish gardens with instagrammable attractions to promote local and international tourism.
