On April 30, 2025, the Provincial Youth Development Council, with LYDO Francis Louis S. Likigan and Benguet Youth Advocate Mr. Benguet Jereed Lou Waclin Tido, spearheaded an anti-drug and anti-terrorism initiative titled “Barkada Kontra Droga at Terorismo.” The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the increasing number of young individuals falling victim to drug abuse.

The activity provided participants with essential information on the harmful effects of illegal drugs and practical strategies for prevention. It also offered concrete advice and support for those who have been exposed to or victimized by drug use or related threats.
The outcome was both eye-opening and emotional. The event created a safe space that encouraged many youth to come forward and share their personal experiences—some rooted in mental health struggles, others in difficult family environments. A number of students also reached out privately, seeking guidance and help.
These testimonies underscore the urgent need to invest in mental health services, accessible support systems, and proactive programs that genuinely address the challenges faced by today’s youth.

The Province of Benguet collaborated with various institutions and youth groups, including Mankayan National High School, Atok National High School, Loo National High School, Benguet National High School, Lepanto National High School, Bokod National High School, Caponga SK, King's College ROTC, and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan. The success of the event was made possible through the active participation and genuine enthusiasm of all stakeholders. This initiative marks a meaningful first step toward building a safer and more empowered Benguet. With its positive impact, the program is set to be sustained and implemented annually.

Summer Camp 2025: "Ignite the Flame: A Heart on Fire for God"

On April 17 to 20, 2025, the vibrant campus of Bangao National High School became the heart of spiritual revival and personal growth as Ms. Benguet 2024, Miss Lovely Balanoy Bomowey, spearheaded the highly anticipated Summer Camp 2025 with the theme: “Ignite the Flame: A Heart on Fire for God.”

The four-day event gathered over 80 enthusiastic participants, including both campers and dedicated volunteers, all coming together to experience a journey of faith, fellowship, and fun.

As the driving force behind the camp, Miss Lovely took on multiple roles with grace and passion serving as facilitator, photographer, instrumentalist, logistics coordinator, and key speaker. Her leadership was instrumental in turning the camp into a memorable and meaningful experience. Her heart for service and ministry was evident in every aspect of the event, from the smallest details to the deepest moments of reflection.

Throughout the camp, participants engaged in a wide range of activities designed to foster both mental and spiritual growth. Each day was filled with inspiring plenary sessions, interactive workshops, group devotions, and team-building games, all centered on deepening their relationship with God and one another.

A powerful highlight of the camp was the testimony-sharing sessions, where participants opened their hearts to share their personal journeys stories of trials, triumphs, and transformation building a community rooted in empathy and faith.

The Summer Camp 2025 wasn’t just an event it was a movement. It ignited a flame in the hearts of everyone present, encouraging them to carry that light into their homes, schools, and communities.

“In the weeks before camp, I turned down other commitments choosing instead to follow the quiet leading of the Holy Spirit.

A day before the event, while helping prepare the venue, I found myself cleaning toilets. It was humbling, but in that moment I prayed, “Lord, I am Yours even in the smallest tasks.”

Though the turnout was smaller than expected, I saw genuine transformation in my small group. God reminded me that it is not about numbers it’s about hearts.

We wore many hats, but every role became an act of worship. The bonfire night was unforgettable. As testimonies were shared, mine included, God’s presence was undeniable.

This camp reignited something in me. It was not just an event rather a divine encounter.”

On April 12, 2025, Our Benguet Youth Advocates/ Mr. & Ms. Benguet 2024, Mr. Jareed Lou Waclin Tido and Ms. Lovely Balanoy Bomowey, implemented their advocacy project entitled “Mentors and Mental Health Builders: Sustaining Mental Health in Buguias” at the Socio-Cultural Center in Loo, Buguias. The event was a significant step in promoting mental wellness within the community. This initiative brought together a diverse group of 36 participants, ranging in age from 16 to 45, including students, instructors, and professionals from both Buguias and neighboring areas.

The event was a collaborative effort, with various educational institutions participating, including Guinaoang National High School, Bangao National High School, San Isidro School of Abatan, Inc., Benguet State University, Saint Louis University, Easter College, and the University of the Cordilleras.

Two plenary sessions stood out, with expert speakers leading discussions on crucial mental health topics:

Precious Fe A. Gawec, Psychology graduate at the University of the Cordilleras, a registered psychometrician and Health Program Officer I from the Provincial Health Office, provided valuable insights into the broader aspects of mental health.

Honey Pearl Calixto, a nurse and Mental Health Coordinator from the Rural Health Unit of Buguias, focused on practical strategies for stress management and self-care, offering participants actionable steps to improve their mental well-being.

A group of 15 volunteers from Echomind and the RHU of Buguias were essential in ensuring the smooth running of the event, embodying the spirit of community support and collaboration.

The event not only educated participants on the importance of mental health but also empowered them with the knowledge and tools to promote wellness within their spheres of influence, making it a resounding success in fostering a healthier and more supportive community environment.

“Organizing Mentors and Mental Health Builders was a major shift from the outreach projects I used to lead, but it became one of the most meaningful initiatives I’ve ever been part of. Choosing to pause other opportunities to focus on this was not easy, but seeing the vision come to life made every sacrifice worth it.

This launch reminded me that when people who believe in the mission surround you—and when you trust in God’s timing—beautiful things can happen. I am deeply grateful for every volunteer, partner, and mentor who helped build this with me. This is just the beginning, and I am hopeful for what has to come.”
