The Philippines is now one of the new emerging markets which influence the world cuisine according to the Hong Kong-based marketing and communications agency, Catch On. DOT Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr., in welcoming this recognition, said, “As more travelers are starting to choose their travel destinations and plan their itineraries based on the food culture of a place, this is definitely an added boost to Philippine tourism.” One of DOT’s programs, the Philippine Improving Competitiveness in Tourism project (PICTourism), focuses on enhancing the skills of tourism establishments and organizations including those that relate to Culinary and Food &Beverage training. In strengthening the human resource pool of the industry, the program seeks to improve the competitiveness of the tourism sector.
