BREAKING NEWS: PAL IS JOINING ONEWORLD ALLIANCE
Philippine Airlines will soon be the newest member of oneworld alliance. The announcement was made at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once completed, PAL will become oneworldโs 16th member airline and only the second full member based in Southeast Asia.
The alliance will give PAL passengers access to a wider global network of nearly 1,000 destinations across more than 170 countries and territories. It will also connect more international travelers to PALโs domestic and regional routes in the Philippines.
For Mabuhay Miles members, the move means more ways to earn and redeem miles across oneworld member airlines. Top-tier PAL customers will also gain access to oneworld Priority benefits, more than 700 premium airport lounges, and eligible First Class lounge and check-in privileges.
โThis is a defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines,โ said PAL Holdings, Inc. President Lucio C. Tan III. โBecoming a member of the oneworld Alliance and strengthening Southeast Asiaโs representation within the group significantly brings the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before. Together with our partners, we will deliver greater choice, consistent journeys, and a world-class travel experience that reflects the warmth of Filipino hospitality.โ
American Airlines CEO and oneworld Governing Board chairman Robert Isom said PAL will help strengthen the allianceโs Asia-Pacific network.
โPAL's entry into oneworld supports our long-term strategic growth and strengthens our connectivity across key markets in the Asia Pacific region,โ said Robert Isom, American Airlines Chief Executive Officer and chairman of the oneworld Governing Board. โThe airline has a proud heritage and will serve a critical role in our Southeast Asia network.โ
Current oneworld members include American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and several other global carriers.
