Iginiit ni Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla na malaki na umano ang ipinagbago ng seguridad sa bansa kumpara sa mga nakaraang taon. Ayon sa kanya, dati ay may takot ang mga tao sa pag-uwi lalo na sa gabi, ngunit ngayon ay mas ramdam na umano ang kaayusan at kaligtasan sa maraming komunidad.

Binigyang-diin din ni Remulla na patuloy ang pagpapaigting ng kampanya laban sa kriminalidad at ilegal na droga upang mapanatili ang kapayapaan at seguridad sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa. Dagdag pa niya, mahalaga ang pagtutulungan ng pamahalaan, kapulisan, at mamamayan upang lalo pang mapabuti ang peace and order situation sa Pilipinas.

Dozens of cruise ship workers, including from Disney, linked to child po*******hy, feds say

Dozens of workers from multiple cruise ships that docked in San Diego, including one from the Disney Cruise Line, were found to be in possession of or involved with the distribution of child po*******hy, according to authorities.

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection boarded eight cruise ships between April 23 and April 27 and interviewed 28 workers as part of an ongoing investigation, federal officials said in a statement.
During the interviews, officers confirmed that 27 of the 28 individuals had either received, sent, possessed or transported child po*******hy, according to the statement.

A Disney Cruise Line ship was among those that were boarded and where employees were detained in connection with the investigation.

In a statement, a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson said the workers were no longer with the company.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the suspects had their visas canceled and were returned to their respective countries of citizenship.

READ: Ralph Recto is pushing for a steep increase in government revenues, saying collections must grow by 10.2 percent annually from 2025 to 2028 to keep the country’s finances stable.

If achieved, total revenues could reach nearly ₱6 trillion by the end of the current administration and exceed ₱7 trillion by 2030.

The plan relies on improving tax collection efficiency through digitalization at the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Bureau of Customs, along with non-tax revenues and programs like the General Tax Amnesty and the extension of the Estate Tax Amnesty.

The scale of the challenge is massive. Last year, the government collected ₱4.42 trillion to support a ₱5.925 trillion budget that funded education for over 24 million students, healthcare for millions, and hundreds of billions in local government support.

This year, the government is expected to collect around ₱13.65 billion daily while dealing with a ₱4.51 billion daily deficit to sustain spending.

Recto also warned against proposals to lower VAT, saying it would result in major revenue losses. He noted that the projected ₱1.39 trillion VAT collection for 2025 would only cover about nine months of salaries, pensions, and benefits for government workers.

With spending needs continuing to grow, the government is making it clear that cutting taxes could come at the cost of essential public services.
