The recently concluded National Environmental Youth Leaders Summit (NEYLS), organized by Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology through the Office of Student Affairs and Services headed by Grace B. Abella, successfully gathered young environmental advocates for a meaningful three-day engagement centered on marine biodiversity awareness, preservation, and sustainabilityโall geared toward promoting a balanced and thriving ecosystem.
The summit featured a series of impactful and immersive activities that strengthened participantsโ appreciation of nature and culture. On the second day, camaraderie and cultural pride were highlighted through a vibrant Cultural Show and Mayorโs Night, showcasing local talents and fostering unity among delegates.
The final day was dedicated to hands-on environmental initiatives across various key sites in Balud, Masbate. Activities included birdwatching at Danao Marshland and mangrove planting at Danao Mangrove Ecopark, reinforcing the importance of wetland and coastal ecosystems. Simultaneously, a coastal clean-up at Poblacion Balud and an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign at Panubigan Marine Sanctuary were conducted to promote environmental responsibility within local communities.
A significant highlight was the Sea Ranching activity at Lumawig River and Adventure Park, where approximately 20,000 bangus fingerlings were releasedโsymbolizing a collective commitment to marine resource sustainability and livelihood support.
Indeed, the summit was a resounding successโbringing together youth leaders united by a common goal: to protect and preserve our natural environment for future generations.
With gratitude, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all NEYLS participants for choosing Balud, Masbate, Philippines as your home during this significant event. May the experiences and insights you gained continue to inspire your journey as champions of environmental stewardship.
