The Batanes most people drive past.
At Racuh A Payaman, most visitors turn their cameras toward Mt. Iraya. On this particular morning, I looked the other way and found the hills disappearing into the clouds.
The same thing happened throughout the trip. Some of my favorite views weren't the famous landmarks, but the places in between: the quiet shoreline of Chadpidan, the textures revealed by low tide in Chanarian, and the winding road to Ivana just before sunset.
Batanes is known for its postcard views, but sometimes the moments that stay with you are the ones that aren't on the postcard at all.
