Samal Island Hymn Composition Contest
COMPETITION MECHANICS
GENERAL:
a. The song composition and exhibition is open to all songwriters and performers who are residents of Island Garden City of Samal;
b. The song should be written in Filipino or in English which shall be performed in solo, duet or group with not more than six (6) members including instrumentalist;
c. Bonafide participants should submit the following:
c.1 Entry Form signifying the intention to join the contest;
c.2 Three (3) copies typewritten/computerized lyrics with the title, name of the composer/s;
c.3 Certification from the barangay with photo copy of voters ID and Cedula of the members of the group;
c.4 One (1) CD of the original song composition; Lyrics of the song should be about Samal Island – what the Island can offer and what the Island Garden City of Samal is; It should be an expression, depiction and portrayal of the island’s resources and endowments including its people;
d. Participating group should create a “Behind the Scene (BTS)” which will be uploaded on their You Tube Channel, on their Facebook Account and also in the samalturismo account on Facebook to validate the genuineness and seriousness of the group’s commitment in creating their entry;
e. There will be two (2) phases of the competition a) Preliminary Judging , and b) Final Judging;
PRELIMINARY JUDGING:
f. Deadline for the submission of Documents c.1 – c.4 will be on December 29, 2017 – 5:00PM at the City Investment and Tourism Office;
g. Song Composition should be at least 3 minutes but not to exceed 5 minutes with 2/4 time signature or march tempo (from start to end);
h. The committee shall select only five (5) finalists from among the First 25 (First come-First served) submitted compositions in CDs based on the following criteria: Lyrics 30%, Melody and Tempo 30%, Originality 20%, Arrangement 20% = Total 100%;
i. Only Five (5) Finalists shall compete during the Final Judging on January 25, 2018;
j. The Five (5) Finalists will be notified not later than January 15, 2018;
k. The Five (5) Finalists shall sign contract waiving their rights of the compositions; The Local Government Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal shall now have the exclusive rights and proprietary of the song composition;
l. Eliminated Entries shall be remunerated of a Consolation Prize of P 3,000.00 with certificate;
FINAL JUDGING:
m. Grand Final Competition is on January 25, 2018 1:00 PM @ the Samal Gymnasium, City Hall Compound, Peñaplata, Samal District , Island Garden City of Samal;
n. Song performance must not exceed 10 minutes including instrument and stage set up (Note that actual rendition of piece is at least three (3) minutes but not to exceed 5 minutes);
o. Performers should bring own instruments such as strings, keyboard, winds or percussion instruments;
p. Criteria for Judging will be Lyrics (30%), Melody and Tempo (30%), Arrangement (30%) and Performance (10%) = Total 100%;
q. Grand Winner will receive Cash P 50,000.00 with trophy; and 4 runners-up will receive Ten Thousand Pesos ( P 10,000.00) each with certificate;
r. The Grand Winner Composition will become the Official Samal Island Hymn and shall be sung in all Formal Ceremonies of the Island Garden City of Samal.
