22 September 2024 marks the beginning of the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and Vernal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. During equinoxes, the day and night are each approximately 12 hours long. Tomorrow, the Sun will rise at 5:45 AM and will set at 5:53 PM. The time discrepancy is caused by atmospheric refraction enabling us to observe the sun minutes before it actually rises and sets.

Due to inclement weather conditions on the island, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our International Observe the Moon Night event originally scheduled for tomorrow. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please understand that we are not in control of the weather.

The good news is that this event is NOT canceled! We are committed to finding a new date when the skies are clear, allowing us to fully enjoy the beauty of the moon together. We will keep you updated on the rescheduled date, so stay tuned!

🛑 ASTEROID ATMOSPHERIC ENTRY ALERT ‼️
A freshly discovered small (~1 m diameter) asteroid (CAQTDL2) is in a trajectory that will direct it into the Earth atmosphere, near Luzon island (Philippines), today (Sept. 4th) around 16h 40min UT. No real impact, but a very bright and slow fireball should be observable by people in the area, and meteorites may reach the ground (or the ocean).
