Santa Praxedes joins PGC-led Dive Trail Circuit Development

The Local Government Unit of Santa Praxedes, through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Municipal Tourism Office, recently participated in a comprehensive Dive Site Assessment. Held from May 23โ€“24 along the coastal areas of Santa Praxedes and Claveria, the assessment is a key component of the Dive Trail Circuit Development project led by the Provincial Government of Cagayan (PGC) through the Cagayan Tourism Office (CTO).

This collaborative effort was conducted in partnership with US-based investor Bubbles or Not, the Philippine Coast Guard, local tour operators, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce Cagayan Chapter, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Key findings from the Santa Praxedes assessment highlight the area's massive potential for dive tourism include; crystal-clear waters which is Ideal for deep diving, thriving marine life with vibrant coral reefs and highly diverse fish species, including thriving populations of clownfish and sea anemones, dramatic rock walls teeming with life, massive boulders acting as natural attractions, and minor trenches perfectly suited for Advanced Open Water diving, and relatively favorable weather condition and warm water.

By involving key national agencies, this initiative aims to promote sustainable and regenerative tourism while envisioning safeguarding and improving Cagayan's coastal marine resources by fostering educational awareness of marine biodiversity and encouraging responsible tourism practices in both land and sea.

Cagayan Dives into an Opportunity of Developing a Dive Trail Circuit ๐Ÿคฟ

Big things are surfacing beneath Cagayanโ€™s waters!

The Provincial Government of Cagayan, under the leadership of Governor Edgar B. Aglipay, through the Cagayan Tourism Office headed by Provincial Tourism Officer EnP. Jenifer Junio-Baquiran, officially kicked off the Cagayan Dive Trail Circuit Development from May 20โ€“24, 2026, a bold initiative aimed at positioning the province as a premier destination for dive and marine sports tourism.

In partnership with international dive tourism investors Bubbles or Not, led by CEO Miss Rose Bennett and Course Director Mr. CJ Goodrich, and with the support of the Philippine Chamber of Commerceโ€“Cagayan Chapter headed by Miss Evelyn Velasco, the initiative explored the underwater tourism potential of the municipalities of Calayan, Claveria, and Sta. Praxedes.

As part of the activity, the Cagayan Tourism Team composed of Miss Honeybee Carmona, Planning Officer III; Miss Shannen Kaye Tolero-Aresga, Tourism Operations Officer I; and Miss Rodalyn Birung, Administrative Aide, together with representatives from DENR Region 2, BFAR Region 2, and the Philippine Coast Guard โ€“ Special Operations Group Northeastern Luzon, conducted dive site assessments across the three municipalities. The team evaluated underwater biodiversity, reef conditions, accessibility, safety, and the overall tourism readiness of identified dive sites.

This initiative marks the beginning of a shared vision, one that champions marine conservation, sustainable tourism, and meaningful livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 - Cagayan through the collaborative efforts of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and Shared Service Facility (SSF) program successfully conducted a five-day Skills Enhancement Training on Loom Weaving cm Product Pricing and Costing on 5โ€“9 May 2026 in Santa Praxedes, Cagayan.

The activity, which was attended by ten (10) loom weavers from the municipality, aimed to strengthen their weaving skills while promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities through the local weaving industry.

Throughout the training, participants learned the proper process of warping, weaving techniques, and creating woven products with patterns and designs. Aside from improving their technical skills, the participants were also taught proper product pricing and costing.

The trainer, Ms. Florence A. Ao-wat, owner of Kinwa Etnika Handicrafts from Kalinga, emphasized the importance of valuing handmade products and recognizing the effort and craftsmanship behind every woven item.

Moreover, Santa Praxedes Municipal Mayor Esterlina A. Aguinaldo, who graced the activity, expressed appreciation to the participants for their dedication and craftsmanship.

During the closing ceremony, Ms. Mildred Aguinaldo, PESO Manager, encouraged the participants to continue pursuing loom weaving and work together in forming an organization that will further strengthen and sustain the weaving industry in the municipality.

The successful conduct of training highlights the continued commitment of DTI Cagayan in empowering local communities by developing skills, preserving craftsmanship, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Andre M. Abique, TIDS-CARP, and Ms. Jhenelyn G. Ancheta, SSF Technical Assistant.
