Dear Valued Travel Partner,
Jetstar have been made aware of upcoming changes to the Japan International Tourist (Departure) Tax which may impact you.
Effective 01 July 2026, the Japan International Tourist (Departure) Tax, levied by National Tax Agency (NTA) of Japan will increase from JPY 1,000 to JPY 3,000 per passenger. For official information, please refer to: https://www.japan.travel/en/plan/international-tourist-tax/
Key points to note
The tax increase applies to all bookings paid on or after 01 July 2026, regardless of when the booking was originally made.
If you have any existing bookings on hold and like to make payment before 30 June 2026, you'll only need to pay the amount previously quoted to you and the current departure tax rates will apply to your booking.
Payments made from 01 July 2026 onwards will be subject to an additional JPY 2,000 per passenger.
If you do not wish to proceed under the revised tax amount, we are able to offer, on an exceptional basis, a cancellation of your booking(s) with a refund of payments made. Please submit such requests in writing before 30 June 2026.
Please ensure this information is shared with your teams and customers when planning Japan departing itineraries.
Thank you for your continued support.
Visitors to Japan pay a 1,000 yen departure tax to expand and enhance the country's tourist infrastructure—a small tax that will make a significant difference.
