“Hayyakumullah.”
A phrase chosen as the theme for Hajj 1447H — simple in wording, yet deeply felt throughout the entire season.
“May Allah welcome you.”
And this year, you could truly feel that welcome everywhere.
Not only in the sight of millions arriving from every corner of the world carrying different languages, stories, fears, hopes, and du‘as… but in the enormous effort poured into receiving them as the Guests of Allah.
Before the hujjaj even entered the rites of Hajj, the preparation had already begun long before them.
The Haramain continuously cleaned and prepared day and night.
Roads and pathways organized for movements that would soon carry millions.
Healthcare teams stationed and ready before emergencies ever arose.
Security personnel standing for hours beneath the heat to maintain safety and order.
Volunteers guiding the lost, helping the elderly, serving water, answering questions, offering comfort.
Engineers, planners, drivers, transport staff, organizers, and countless workers whose names will never be known publicly, yet whose efforts became part of nearly every pilgrim’s journey.
And when over 1.7 million pilgrims finally gathered for Hajj, the scale of it all became impossible to ignore.
Every safe tawaf.
Every organized crowd movement.
Every cooled space in intense heat.
Every train ride between the mashāʿir.
Every clean pathway after thousands had passed through it.
Every medical response that arrived in time.
Every bottle of water handed to an exhausted pilgrim.
Behind each of those moments were people serving quietly.
And perhaps that is what makes Hajj so moving to witness — not only the worship of the pilgrims themselves, but the countless unseen efforts dedicated to facilitating that worship.
Alhamdu lillah, Allah سبحانه وتعالى continues to facilitate the service of His guests through the means He provides: through people, leadership, planning, technology, infrastructure, and hearts willing to carry responsibility for something far greater than themselves.
In recent years especially, we have seen how modern systems and technology continue to be used in service of worship — crowd management, transportation systems, cooling initiatives, healthcare readiness, digital guidance, and safety measures all working together to ease the movement of millions in one of the largest gatherings on earth.
And while no human effort will ever be perfect, it is impossible to witness Hajj closely without recognizing the immense work, pressure, patience, and responsibility carried by those serving behind the scenes.
To the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, and every single individual who contributed to facilitating this year’s Hajj — whether seen or unseen — may Allah reward you immensely for serving the Guests of الرحمن.
May Allah accept from the hujjaj their Hajj, their exhaustion, their tears, their sacrifices, and every sincere du‘a whispered in those sacred places.
And may He accept from every person who worked to make that journey easier for them.
“Hayyakumullah.”
A welcome that, by the mercy of Allah, was not only spoken — but felt.
