Massive Flood Threatens Khaltaro; Residents Appeal for Immediate Relocation
KHALTARO: Following a major flood in Khaltaro, local residents have expressed serious concerns over the safety of the area, stating that it is no longer suitable for permanent habitation due to the constant threat of devastating floods.
According to local community members, the recent flooding has put lives, homes, and livelihoods at extreme risk. Residents say that repeated flood disasters have made it increasingly dangerous to continue living in Khaltaro.
The people of Khaltaro have appealed to the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Federal Government of Pakistan to take urgent action by relocating affected families to safer locations. They have specifically requested that the population be resettled in Buladas, Makpoon Das, and other secure areas where they can rebuild their lives without the fear of recurring flood disasters.
Community representatives urged the authorities to conduct an immediate assessment of the affected area, provide emergency relief, and develop a comprehensive rehabilitation and resettlement plan. They stressed that timely government intervention is essential to protect lives and prevent future tragedies.
Residents hope that both the Gilgit-Baltistan Government and the Federal Government will respond promptly to their appeal and ensure the long-term safety and well-being of the people of Khaltaro.
