Ever thought where the word โ€œFirounโ€ ูุฑุนูˆู† comes from? Let us tell you itโ€™s etymology & the show you the stone/cartouche on which it is inscribed.

The word **โ€Firounโ€ (ูุฑุนูˆู†)** comes ultimately from the ancient Egyptian term:

**๐“‰๐“‰ป (pr-๊œฅ๊œฃ)** โ†’ pronounced approximately **โ€per-aaโ€**

* **pr** = house
* **๊œฅ๊œฃ** = great

So **pr-๊œฅ๊œฃ** literally meant **โ€Great Houseโ€**, originally referring to the royal palace rather than the king himself.

Over time, the term came to refer to the ruler living in that โ€œGreat House,โ€ much like how โ€œthe White Houseโ€ can refer to the U.S. administration.

The word evolved through several languages:

**Ancient Egyptian** *pr-๊œฅ๊œฃ* (โ€œGreat Houseโ€)

Interestingly, in the earliest periods of Egyptian history, rulers were not called โ€œPharaoh.โ€ The title became commonly used for the king during the **New Kingdom** period (c. 1550โ€“1070 BCE).

Today, โ€œFirounโ€ is often used in Islamic and Arabic contexts specifically for the tyrannical ruler who opposed Moses, but historically โ€œPharaohโ€ was a general title used for many Egyptian kings.
