Alternative Traffic Plan

Arrival of Foreign Delegations in Islamabad

From 12 AM until further notice, entry of all types of heavy traffic into Islamabad from any side or any highway will remain closed.

Except for Margalla Road and Murree Road, all entry points to the Red Zone will be completely closed for all types of traffic.

There will be diversions for traffic on the Expressway from Korral to Faizabad, Murree Road, and Club Road.

Srinagar Highway from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk will remain completely closed.

Islamabad residents are advised to follow the alternative traffic plan below in case different roads are closed:

1. Traffic coming/going to Zero Point from Faisal Avenue will be diverted toward 9th Avenue.
2. If Zero Point to Korral Chowk is closed, traffic can go to Korral via Srinagar Highway → 9th Avenue → Stadium Road → Murree Road → Chandni Chowk → Rawal Road.
3. If Park Road to Club Road is closed, traffic will be diverted toward Tramri Chowk.
4. Citizens traveling between Bara Kahu and Rawalpindi should use Kurang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road.
5. Citizens traveling between Rawalpindi Saddar and Islamabad should use Colonel Sher Khan Road, Fateh Jang Road, or 9th Avenue.
6. Heavy traffic going from GT Road Peshawar to Lahore should use Motorway from Taxila → Chakri Interchange → Chak Beli Road → GT Road Rawat.
7. Heavy traffic going from GT Road Lahore to Peshawar should use GT Road Rawat → Chak Beli Road → Chakri Interchange, then travel via Motorway toward Taxila.

The district administration has revised its earlier decision; hiking trails are closed again, while major city routes remain operational as of now. Access to the Red Zone remains restricted, and movement via Margalla Road is operational under current security measures. Commuters are advised to avoid hiking areas, plan travel accordingly, and strictly follow updated instructions issued by authorities.

*Transport Update: Islamabad / Rawalpindi*

As per the local administration, permission has been granted for all types of public and goods transport to enter the city, indicating a normalization of movement following recent restrictions.

All bus terminals across the city have been reopened; *however, Faizabad Bus Terminal will remain closed until further notice.*

This suggests that while transport operations are largely being restored, restrictions at key interchange points such as Faizabad remain in place, likely due to security or traffic management considerations.

Islamabad Traffic Updates
Traffic conditions in Rawalpindi and Islamabad remain disrupted due to VVIP movements and heightened security arrangements for visiting delegations from Iran and the US ahead of the anticipated second round of peace talks in Islamabad. The extended Red Zone completely sealed with intermittent closures along major routes during VVIP movements. A heightened security posture is evident, with extensive checks and a robust law enforcement presence. The U.S. delegation is enroute to Pakistan, while the Iranian delegation, led by Abbas Araghchi, arrived last night for a bilateral visit and has yet to formally confirm participation. However, the likelihood of a second round of talks taking place in Islamabad in the coming days remains high.
