In a country where more than 60% of the population is young, ideas are everywhere but spaces to belong to question, to connect are rare. Most young people grow up learning history from textbooks, not from streets that still carry its echoes. They are taught to listen, not to ask. To memorize, not to reclaim.

Safar-e-Aman, supported by UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime began as an invitation to step outside the classroom and into conversation. Fifty Gen-Z youth from different schools, colleges, and universities said yes. For many of them, it was the first time they were allowed to simply be curious together.

We walked through Frere Hall, where the old city whispered stories of coexistence and conflict. Conversations unfolded about identity, discrimination, and the invisible walls we grow up around. At St. Patrick’s Church, silence turned into reflection. At Quaid-e-Azam House and Mohatta Palace, history stopped being distant and became personal. We didn’t go to visit places. We went to reclaim them to ask questions, to share stories, to unlearn fear. By the end of the journey, something had shifted. Strangers had become listeners. Listeners had become allies. And a simple pledge emerged: to return to our communities with more empathy than we arrived with. Because when youth are given space, they don’t just travel through cities
they begin to reimagine society.

Public spaces are our spaces. Yet sadly, even the models of trainings, conferences, and youth engagement are often colonized shaped through a patronizing lens imported from the West.

At Collective Pakistan, we are intentional about reclaiming public spaces whether they are cultural heritage sites or community spaces and transforming them into places where people feel heard, included, and safe to participate. We don’t “deliver” ideas.

We co-create them. Recently, we held a powerful storytelling and artivism gathering with youth in Karachi, where we opened a dialogue around personalized peace. What peace means is different for everyone and we witnessed that deeply. For some young women, gender-based violence felt like both the cause and consequence of a lack of peace. For many boys, it was the absence of sports facilities and safe recreational spaces. Some girls from Hindu communities spoke about forced conversions. Girls from flood-affected regions spoke about out-of-school realities, drought, and early child marriages.
We then used art to transform emotions into expression using colour to make our voices louder, visible, and undeniable. This dialogue took place in Gulistan-e-Johar, inside a public youth complex under the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh

This kind of engagement does more than inspire youth it creates room for voices that are usually unreachable. Many families and young girls joined us simply by walking in, driven by curiosity, and stayed to ask: “How can we be part of this?” Because real change needs real community engagement and real community ownership. We are deeply grateful to for supporting the Safar-e-Aman Fellowship, through which we continue localized peace activism reclaiming our spaces, reclaiming our identities, and building peace from the ground up.

The best part of such spaces is meeting young people who come forward with powerful ideas, practical solutions, and bold innovations. These interactions remind us why investing in youth-led leadership truly matters. We deeply appreciate the organizers for creating platforms that uplift young voices and provide them with opportunities to connect, innovate, and lead.

Women’s mobility in Pakistan has always been challenging especially when it comes to visiting religious and cultural sites. From safety concerns to travel costs, from hygiene issues to the lack of basic facilities, there is so much that needs to be fixed.

And yet, despite these barriers, we .buddies proudly say that we have hosted more than 800+ women creating fully funded, safe, and meaningful opportunities for them to explore heritage spaces that once felt out of reach.
Through these heritage and diversity tours, we not only opened doors for women, but also helped local communities become part of the story supporting them, amplifying their voices, and encouraging coexistence.

By connecting women to the beautiful history and cultural richness of Sindh, we are building a society where everyone can learn, travel, and coexist with dignity and pride.

At Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, the big ground behind the temple turned into a cheerful Diwali bazaar with 20–30 colorful stalls. ✨
Clay lamps in shiny colors filled every table three small and two big ones for just a hundred rupees! 🪔 You could also grab firecrackers, stickers, and tiny idols of Rama, Sita, and Lakshman for puja, Btw today is the Last Day.
Happy Diwali 🪔
