Upper Kachura Lake is a deep, pristine, and historically untampered natural lake located about 28 km south of Skardu City in Gilgit-Baltistan. Sitting at an elevation of 2,500 meters, it is part of a lake system famous for its wild apricot orchards, rugged mountain terrain, and remarkably clear water.
Formation: The lake is believed to have been formed by a natural river blockage centuries ago. It is fed by glacial streams cascading down the Karakoram Mountains.
The "Unseen Bride": In Baltistani tradition, the lake is often referred to as the "Unseen Bride." This is because its rugged terrain and lack of commercial infrastructure shielded it from mass tourism for decades, preserving its wild and natural state.
Depth & Temperature: It is a relatively deep body of water, reaching depths of up to 70 meters (230 ft). During the summer, its waters hover around 15ยฐC, but the surface freezes completely solid in the freezing winter months.
