Gurdwara Bhai Biba Singh – A Fading Jewel of Peshawar’s Heritage...
Gurdwara Bhai Biba Singh, also known as the Jogiwara Gurdwara, is a 300-year-old Sikh temple nestled in Jogiwara Mohalla, Hashtnagri Bazaar, Peshawar. Built during the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, it stands as a powerful reminder of the city’s multicultural past and Sikh heritage in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Closed for worship from 1942 to 2016 due to a local dispute, it was reopened on March 30, 2016 through an agreement between Muslim and Sikh communities. That reopening became a symbol of interfaith harmony and tolerance.
Yet, glimpses of the adjacent building and parts of the gurdwara reveal a painful truth: this portion, another jewel of Peshawar’s heritage, is biting the dust. Despite its historic and architectural value, neglect and time have left it deteriorating.
Today, Gurdwara Bhai Biba Singh remains both a proud landmark of Peshawar’s history and a quiet call for its preservation, before another piece of our shared heritage is lost.
