The community-led Phialuung Water Diversion Project, constructed at a cost of Rs260 million, has been inaugurated in Deosai to help address the longstanding water shortage in Skardu.

The 34,000-foot-long water diversion project was developed through a combination of community contributions and government support. The community mobilised Rs110 million, while the Gilgit-Baltistan government provided Rs100 million and subsequently contributed an additional Rs50 million towards the project.

The initiative, spearheaded by Agha Syed Baqir Al-Hussaini with the support of community members, volunteers and technical experts, is designed to divert water from the Deosai region towards the Satpara catchment to supplement water availability
