Sound on. This is what February sounds like in Hushe Valley.

That is Sajjad on the scope, one of our trackers. He is watching the face above the village, the same slope a family of snow leopards has used in every season for the last three years.

Pakistan has roughly 155 snow leopards across more than 80,000 square kilometres of mountain. Most people who go looking never see one. Hushe is the exception. One narrow valley, Himalayan ibex wintering on both facing slopes, and cats that hunt within sight of the houses.

From late January to the middle of March they are in mating season. For the rest of the year they are silent. In these weeks they call across the gorge at dusk and before first light, and the sound carries down to the village. Very few people alive have heard it.

February and March 2027. 8 days, Skardu to Skardu. Warm village base in Hushe, spotting scopes, local trackers, no technical climbing and no glacier travel.

Three years. Every season. The same family of snow leopards.

Pakistan has roughly 155 snow leopards spread across more than 80,000 square kilometres of mountain. Hushe Valley concentrates them. One narrow valley, Himalayan ibex wintering on both facing slopes, and a resident family the local trackers know by heart.

In February the cats are in mating season, calling across the gorge at dusk and before first light. Ibex herds are in the scopes on most days. Red fox, golden eagle and bearded vulture fill in the rest.

8 days, Skardu to Skardu. February and March 2027, maximum 6 guests. No technical climbing, no glacier travel, warm village base in Hushe.

Yosemite gets 4 million visitors a year. Nangma Valley gets a few hundred.

El Capitan rises about 900 metres. Two walls in this one valley beat it: Amin Brakk at 1,650 m and Shingu Charpa's north ridge at 1,550 m. Amin Brakk was first climbed in 1999 by a Spanish team who spent 32 days living on the wall, then named the whole mountain after Amin, the cook who fed them.

Getting there takes two easy days on foot from Kanday village. No glacier crossing, no technical skill, no permit, no queue for a campsite.

Group departures 2027, June to September. Small groups, local Balti guides, Skardu to Skardu. European partner agencies welcome.

Everyone knows K2. Almost nobody knows K1.
This is Masherbrum, 7,821 metres, standing over Hushe Valley in Baltistan. In 1856 a British surveyor sat on a mountain in Kashmir, 210 kilometres away, sketched the Karakoram and numbered the peaks he could see. K for Karakoram. The very first one he drew was this one.

K1 never meant biggest. It meant first. When the surveyors came closer, they learned this peak already had a name here: Masherbrum, often translated as Queen of Peaks. So K1 gave its number back. K2 stayed a code because it hides from every village, even though our Baltis call it Chogori.

Then look at what she has done since.

1957: a British climber dies at high camp. Don Whillans turns back 100 metres below the top.
1960: an American and Pakistani team finally summits. Capt. Jawed Akhter Khan becomes the first Pakistani ever to climb a major Karakoram peak.
1981: a Polish team reaches the southwest summit. Two of the three never come down.
1985: two teams summit on consecutive days.
And then silence. Forty-one years of it. Four expeditions in history, fewer than twenty people on top, and this summer teams came back and were turned away again.

You may never climb K1. But you can stand at her feet.
We run treks from Skardu into Hushe Valley — Masherbrum Base Camp, Charakusa and K7 — and we provide full expedition support for teams going high on K1 itself. Small groups, local Balti guides and porters, licensed and insured.

One day you'll be too old to say yes.

These are the Trango Towers. Over a thousand metres of vertical granite standing straight out of the Baltoro Glacier, in a valley where the loudest sound is ice moving somewhere below you.
Nobody arrives here by accident. You walk in. Days up the glacier, past Paiju, past Urdukas, under Masherbrum, all the way to K2 Base Camp and over Gondogoro La.

The people who make it are not superhuman. They are teachers, engineers, nurses, parents. The only thing they did differently was book the trip instead of thinking about it for another year.

Everyone asks us about K2.

But for someone doing their first big trek, we would honestly recommend Barah Broq. 🇵🇰

Four beautiful turquoise lakes, green summer pastures, shepherds with their animals, and fresh mountain streams along the way.

On a clear day, you can also get a great view of K2.

You can even climb Moses Peak at 5,490 m. No ropes and no technical climbing. You just walk up.

You don't need to have done a Himalayan trek before. Good shoes, some fitness, and a positive mind are enough.
