The Shimshal Road in Gilgit-Baltistan is widely considered one of the most hazardous mountain routes in the world. Carved into sheer cliffs, it features narrow, single-lane dirt tracks, steep hairpin turns, and sheer drops of hundreds of meters, frequently without guardrails.

The road branches off from the Karakoram Highway (KKH) near Passu, winding for about 50 to 60 kilometers to connect the remote Shimshal Valley to the rest of Hunza.

Travel Time: The drive from the KKH to the village of Shimshal typically takes around 4 to 7 hours in a 4x4 jeep, depending on road conditions.
