The elevation ranges from 991 meters (3,300 feet) above sea level at Saidu Sharif to 6,257 meters (20,528 feet) at the top of its highest mountain, Flaksair. Swat Valley, especially lower Swat, is a year-round tourist destination. However the main tourist season for Swat begins in spring and lasts till autumn (April to October). April to May is the best time to visit Swat, when the fresh green grass carpet covers the slopes. The total distance from Islamabad to Mingora/Saidu Sharif is 247Km and it takes around 5 hours with one stop for lunch and refreshments. This route is open for all kinds of traffic throughout the year. Using the above mentioned route from Mardan onwards, the distance from from Peshawar to Mingora/Saidu Sharif is 151 km. Total driving time from Peshawar is around 4 hours. For those preferring public transport, travelling in an air conditioned bus/Hiace Wagon service is an option. There are several bus companies with regular direct service to Mingora from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Mardan. The Daewoo Bus Service operates the most comfortable and reliable air conditioned bus service to Mingora from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.

CM KPK Parvez Khattak will inaugurate the construction work of "Swat Motorway" at Thana Malakand Agency on 25 August 2016.

The planned project will reduce the travelling time between Islamabad and Swat to just 3 and a half hour (Approx) instead of 5 hours.

"Good News! Tourists to Malakand region no longer required to get NOC"

PESHAWAR: There is a good news for foreigners, who intend to visit the scenic spots in Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are now not required to acquire any No Objection Certificate (NOC) for their travel.

A letter sent by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to the Secretary Sports, Tourism, Archeology, Museums, Culture and Youth Affairs Department and the KP Police chief said that the Malakand Division has been declared open and is no more restricted area.
The letter titled “Clarification/guidance regarding movement of tourists cases” that issued by the department on Tuesday has been termed the most important information and called for its immediate release to the quarters concerned, particularly the foreigners visiting the serene sites located in Swat and Chitral of Malakand Division.
The letter issued by the section officer (Foreigners & Media) of the Home Department said: “Further in continuation of this department’s letter of even number dated 16th March 2016, I am directed to state that foreign tourists who intend to visit Malakand Division, are not required to get NOC, as Malakand Division has been declared open and is no more restricted area. The Pakistan Association of Tour Operators may be facilitated in the conduct of their tours.”
The copy of this information has also been forwarded to the Headquarters 11 Corps, Peshawar, the Joint Director General Intelligence Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, personal staff officer to chief minister of KP, personal staff officer to KP chief secretary, Adl Inspector General of Police, Special Branch, KP, and Secretary Home Department.
The NOC was a big obstacle in the way of foreign tourists who wanted to travel to tourism-rich Swat and Chitral areas.
Now no NOC required by foreign tourists anymore to visit Swat, chitral, as travel restrictions to these tourism rich areas relaxed for the foreigners.
