🏛️ —The Directorate General of Archaeology, Government of Punjab, in collaboration with the Gandhara Taxila Center for Development (GTCD) and the Gandhara Resource Centre Pakistan (GRCP), successfully organized a World Heritage Day celebration at Taxila on 18 April 2026.
🏛️ —Officials from the Directorate General of Archaeology, including Ex- Director Mr. Malik Maqsood and Deputy Director Asim Dogar SRO Taxila, along with staff from Taxila Museum graced the occasion.
🏛️ —The event drew participation from a large number of students, youth, and community representatives, reflecting a strong collective commitment to preserving cultural heritage. A wide range of local organizations actively contributed to the program, including Taxila Baithak, Shah Zain Ali Trust and Vocational Training Center, Her Legacy, Glaxit, Gandhara Odyssey, Indus Tour Club Wah Cantt, Salony News, Green Tech, and YouTubers.
🏛️ —Notable participants included Raja Noor Muhammad Nizami Sahib- Historian, Mr. Ismail (Pepsi Distributors Taxila), Mr. Mehmood Anwar, Mrs. Nooren (Her Legacy), and Azam Mukhtar, along with other community representatives. Students from Sir Syed School Mohra Muradoo also participated in the event.
🏛️ —The heritage walk began at Taxila Museum, proceeded to Sirkap, and concluded at the St. Thomas Monument. Participants showed keen interest in visiting these historic sites and learning about their cultural significance. Noor Muhammad Nizami, a noted historian, briefed participants on the historical importance of the St. Thomas Monument.
🏛️ —Speakers appreciated the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, particularly the local community, for their active participation in the event. A significant highlight of the event was the strong participation of women, representing their growing role to preserving cultural heritage alongside men.
