Zalipie is famous (but not touristy) little village in southern part of Poland – located ca. 1,5 hour drive from Krakow. This is a place which may be described as „folk art village”. Almost everywhere you will see the local art culture – many houses are painted in typical Zalipie folklore style. This is one of my favourite excurions, since my family lived in vicinity of Zalipie.

Come with me on a private tour of Zalipie and listen to stories of exceptional polish folk painters, visit locals at their homes and enjoy real Poland! This is really something exceptional – and not discovered by most „tourists” who come to Poland.

Tempel synagogue was erected in the years 1860-1862 in the round-arch style based on Ignacy Hercok' design. During several decades it was repeatedly expanded. The specificity of the progressive scheme of the Tempel Synagogue was the fact that the sermons were delivered once a week in Polish and German interchangeably. The most prominent preacher was Rabbi Dr. Ozjasz Thon, a Polish MP in the interwar period. Another innovation introduced to spite tradition was giving women permission to sing next to the chanter and the choir. This made the synagogue harshly criticised by orthodox Jews associated with the Remuh Synagogue.

Remuh Synagogue build in the16thc., it is the smallest of the synagogues in Kazimierz and is still used for religious worship. It may be visited outside service hours. Next to it lies the beautiful Renaissance cemetery with numerous historic tombstones. The matzevahs and sarcophagi are adorned with intriguing ornamental motifs and are being renovated one after another. The most venerated site is the tomb of Rabbi Moses Isserless (Remuh) which draws Jewish pilgrims from all over the world. The Synagogue is active.

First synagogue here is The High Synagogue built as the third synagogue in the Jewish town of Kazimierz, after the Old Synagogue and the Remuh Synagogue. It was erected after 1556, but no later than 1563. The name of the synagogue comes from the fact that its prayer hall was located on the first floor of the building. When Poland was invaded during World War II, the N***s devastated the interior of the temple, preserving, however, some of the original murals. These paintings make High Synagogue unique in Kraków.

High Synagogue is currently inactive and is used to house interesting exhibits reflecting the Jewish people.

Tempel Synagoge in Krakow- Kazimierz.

Amazing design! The richly finished interior is adorned with dense patterns painted in many colors and copious amounts of gold leaf, but the patterns, with the exception of the exquisite Moorish design on the ceiling, are not stylistically Moorish.
