I don’t make it to the beach as often as I used to. These days, I’ve grown more into a mountain man, but when I find a secluded beach or a quiet little town with fewer people, that’s the kind of peace and reset my soul needs.

The older I get, the more I realize I don’t need much to be happy.

Less noise.
Less traffic.
Less rushing.
Less people.

I am a country guy at heart, but nothing brings me peace like the rural life or off the beaten path locations. Waking up to birds instead of sirens, having space to breathe, and growing food.

And at this point in my life, peace is something I’ll choose over everything.

As you get older, are you searching for country peace or city convenience?

Would you jump into a dark hole in the middle of the Mexican jungle? 😳

This is Cenote Calavera in Tulum, and what makes cenotes so fascinating is that they’re way more than just beautiful swimming holes.

Beneath the Yucatán Peninsula is a massive world of underground caves, tunnels and freshwater that can go much deeper than what you see from the surface.

The first time I jumped into a cenote was 8 years ago, and now I’m hooked.

And here’s the crazy part: about 66 million years ago, a massive asteroid struck this region of Mexico. That impact created the Chicxulub crater and helped trigger the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Cenotes were also sacred to the ancient Maya. Some were used as water sources, places of worship, ceremonial offerings, and human remains have been found in many cenotes and caves.

So yes, I jumped, but standing over this cenote opening, knowing the history and mystery beneath me, definitely made me think twice.

Would you jump in?
