Pouring a fresh glass from my new favourite kitchen addition! 🏺✨
Ever since the open day at the Estremoz municipal museum learning about the history of local ceramics, I’ve been dying to try this out. Legend has it that water tastes sweeter when served from a traditional pottery jug (or moringue)!
To test the theory, I took a trip to my absolute favourite potter in Redondo (Olaria Poço Velho). I timed it perfectly—he had just finished a batch of these fantastically shaped, traditional water holders, and was already busy processing the next load of clay fresh from the campo.
Because the pottery is completely unglazed, it needed some prep before its first use:
1️⃣ Submerged in water for 24 hours 💦
2️⃣ Baked dry in the sun for another 24 hours ☀️
Now, it is finally ready. I'm about to take the first sip... Will there be a detectable change in the flavour? Let's find out! 🧪👅
