This beautiful homage is displayed in the north of Costa de Lavos.

The history of "peixeira" women in Portugal involves a traditional, gender-specific division of labor where women, or "peixeiras," sold fish that their male counterparts caught at sea. They were essential to the economy, physically carrying heavy baskets of fish on their heads, and their distinctive calls announced the sale of fresh seafood in urban centers. Today, their legacy is celebrated as a symbol of hard work, resilience, and cultural heritage, often honored in festivals and traditional events.

They wore distinctive clothing, including brightly colored blouses, skirts, and a special cloth circle called the "sogra" on their heads to protect them and cushion the basket.
